It's National Coffee Day, according to Twitter. How does that tie to potato chips? With difficulty.
The layup is to discuss the Cappuccino chips currently on American store shelves; however, that's been covered already at Potato Chip World.
Instead, here are four questions I had when thinking about coffee and potato chips. Are the Lays Cappuccino chips the first coffee chips ever? No! Leave it to Asian brand Calbee to have a coffee-flavored chip in 2011. There may be others, but this is the only evidence of coffee chips I could find, excluding chocolate/coffee-coated chips. I don't want coffee-flavored chips. What I if I just want my caffeine fix while enjoying my favorite snack? You may be out of luck. In the late 2000s, Golden Flake offered NRG Snax, a caffeinated line of potato chips. They're nowhere to be found as of 2014.
Fortunately, the website is still active. (NOTE: be sure to click the Continue to Site link in the lower left). Has anyone ever tried to make potato-flavored coffee? Not from what I can tell. In fact, it's a really bad thing for coffee growers to haveĀ potato-like traits associated with their beans. Have you wavered on your "Cappuccino Chips will win" prediction? I remain steadfast that regardless of taste and public sentiment, Cappuccino-flavored chips will be part of our chip aislesĀ for years to come.
